Celebrating Gender Pronouns

Celebrating Gender Pronouns

Celebrating Pride month this year has not been easy, with many events being cancelled and challenges meeting friends, family, and colleagues in person.  But as June comes to a close, let’s remember to celebrate LGBTQIA+ individuals all year round.

One of the ways you can show your pride and respect to the LGBTQIA+ community is by familiarising yourself with gender pronouns.  Gender neutral or non-binary pronouns are titles that we select for ourselves based on the identity we align with.  While some of us align emotionally, mentally, and spiritually with our physical sex, some of us do not.  Gender pronouns thus recognise the many forms of gender expression and empower the gender fluid community to define who they are for themselves.

There’s…

She/Her

He/Him

They/Them

Ze/Zir

Ze/Hir

Xe/Xem

Ey/Em

Ve/Ver

Ne/Nem

+ more!

Have you thought about which pronoun you might align with?  Rather than assume, do you make an effort to inquire about someone’s preferred pronoun?  Does your workplace use forms with options to select non-binary, gender neutral pronouns?  What are some other ways you can show your respect and inclusivity to the gender fluid community?

At Couples Therapy Melbourne, we proudly support members of the LGBTQIA+ community!
